Chris Burton holds the unique position of having not only played but umpired at multiple Netball World Cups over a decorated career at international level.
Burton’s playing career stretched over 12 years and she represented Australia at two Netball World Cups, being part of the team which won gold in 1975 before becoming a highly-distinguished umpire.
She umpired at three Netball World Cups, including the 1991 tournament in Sydney, and her work in officiating the game is widely recognised as transforming the way that the sport is umpired.
Burton was an active member of the international umpires’ pool until 1996 and was then involved with coaching umpires at all levels not only in Australia but overseas.
Burton was awarded a Netball Australia life membership in 1971, received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 1985, was inducted into Netball Australia’s Hall of Fame in 2010 and in 2013 was honoured with an International Service Award by the International Netball Federation.
