Four Australian Diamond squad members have found new homes on Day Four of the player movement period for the new national netball league.
Shooters Caitlin Bassett and Stephanie Wood have relocated from Perth and Sydney respectively, as the first two players named in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Lightning team.
“I think the new league is going to be really exciting and this move is a great opportunity for me to continue my growth and experience as an athlete, alongside a new coach and teammates in a new playing environment,” Bassett said.
“I am so excited about coming home. Family is important to me and the chance be close to family is amazing,” Wood said.
Kristiana Manu’a and Susan Pettitt have also found new clubs, with Manu’a returning home to New South Wales after two seasons in New Zealand, signing with GIANTS Netball.
Pettitt, as well as retired Diamond Kimberlee Green, have made the move from the NSW Swifts to the new NSW-based GIANTS team.
“There are more than 250 international caps amongst the playing group, which also features some of netball’s rising stars. The potential of this team is incredibly exciting; I can’t wait for pre-season to get started to see what they can do together,” Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said.
