Selecting a netball team can be a difficult task whether it’s the coach of a local club or in charge of the Australian Diamonds striving for a Commonwealth Games or Netball World Cup gold medal.

To help make the selection process that little bit easier, Netball Australia has developed an online resource titled Select for Netball Success which provides anyone in the position of selector with a wealth of information on the best way to approach the process of selection.

Netball Australia’s National Pathway Manager Stacey West said while the course is aimed at any netball selector or coach, anyone is welcome to enroll in the course.

“The objective of the resource is to provide absolute knowledge and information for the everyday coach, from grassroots right through to elite level, around the principles of selection and principles around team selection,” West said.

“For example, how you go about selecting athletes for a single position or how you select athletes to form a combination in a team.

This resource gives you key pieces of information and some strategies about how you go about identifying the talent and working through the process to get your team of 12 at the conclusion.

“The resource aims to assist coaches to select athletes, which at times can be the toughest role in the sport given that you are potentially deciding on an athlete’s future.

“This resource is designed to aid coaches and selectors in this process.”

The course consists of five modules and takes about 90 minutes to finish. A certificate is provided on completion.

“The course offers a range of resources and information that can be downloaded so I encourage anyone who’s involved in any part of the selection process to log on and get access to the Select for Netball Success resources,” West said.
