Melbourne will host the world’s best netballers at the ANZ Championship Official Pre-Season event over the weekend of February 15-16 at Melbourne’s State Netball Hockey Centre.
Dubbed the ‘Summer Shootout’, the event is a joint venture between the ANZ Championship and Netball Victoria, and supported by the Victorian State Government.
Games will be played on two courts at the State Netball Hockey Centre with teams set to have a number of valuable hit-outs over the two days.
The Victorian State Government has provided important funding support to enable Netball Victoria to host the event, with the Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty thrilled to showcase the best netballers in the world to Melbourne’s passionate sporting fans.
“We are proud to support this event. Melbourne has world class sporting facilities and is the home of the best sports fans in the world. There is no better place for international sports people and events and we are delighted to help bring this event to Victoria,” Minister Delahunty said.
ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook said the pre-season event promises an action-packed weekend as teams fine-tune their preparations for what is shaping up as an exciting 2014 ANZ Championship season.
“The 2013 season was our most competitive ever and ended on a memorable note with the Adelaide Thunderbirds becoming the first multiple champion. I know that fans will relish this chance to get a taste of what’s in store for 2014 before the season officially begins on 1 March,” Crook said.
Netball Victoria CEO Michelle Plane said the opportunity for Victorians to have access to the best netballers in the world for a weekend in Melbourne was an exciting prospect for the state.
“It’s a great chance to see some of the world’s best players, all in one place, at affordable prices and at a fantastic venue like the State Netball Hockey Centre. Sports fans can expect to see some amazing non-stop action over two courts, over the weekend,” Plane said.
“Netball Victoria is proud to be hosting this international tournament for the second year in a row and we thank Minister for Sport Hugh Delahunty and his team at Sport and Recreation Victoria; without their support of this event it could not happen.”
Tickets for the 2014 ANZ Championship Official Pre-Season Event will go on sale to the general public at 9am Saturday 21 December 2013 through Ticketmaster.
