Australian Diamonds’ squad member and 2016 debutant Kristiana Manu’a will miss the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season after rupturing her Achilles tendon.
Manu’a, who made her debut in August during the Netball Quad Series, sustained the injury during training last week. The 21-year-old will undergo surgery, followed by a rehabilitation period.
Diamonds head coach Lisa Alexander was disappointed by the news, however remains positive that the talented defender would remain focused on her goals.
“It’s tough news for Kristiana, especially after making her Diamonds debut and coming back to Australia to play with GIANTS Netball in Suncorp Super Netball,” said Alexander.
“She is working towards the goal of Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 and has a promising career ahead of her. Kristiana is in a great environment and we will be working closely with Netball NSW during her rehabilitation and return to the court.
“We wish Kristiana all the best in her recovery.”
The Australian Diamonds travel to South Africa and England in January to defend their Netball Quad Series title.
