To say that Suncorp Super Netball is living up to its name is not overstated.
That we have seen a step up in intensity, speed, great contests and coaching prowess is undeniable.
The first round of matches literally had me beaming from ear to ear at the fierceness of the competition and the small margins in the results.
The unpredictable nature of the outcome is a vital parameter of sports viewing, and Suncorp Super Netball is delivering in that regard albeit for the wonderful start to the season of the undefeated GIANTS Netball.
As I have discussed previously, a world class domestic competition is vital to our sports’ growth on the national sporting stage in such a crowded marketplace.
It is also a most important cog in our High Performance system and in the preparation of the Diamonds.
A pleasing aspect of the new structure of the competition is the increase in opportunities for our younger athletes in our athlete pathway.
This is also mirrored in the increased opportunities for coaches and umpires.
To see Jess Anstiss performing well beyond her years, Sasha Glasgow entering her debut match with composure, Emily Mannix relishing her anchoring role in GK, Cody Lange take the court powerfully after her knee reconstruction, Jamie-Lee Price continue her strong form from over the ditch, Maddy Proud find her mojo in a different city, Kim Jenner shutting down the best goalers in the business and Cara Coenen stepping up her intensity and attacking flair.
I have also been travelling around the country on my National Coach visits where I work with the athletes and coaches within their Suncorp Super Netball Club environments. I will visit each of the eight Suncorp Super Netball clubs.
This gives me an opportunity to connect with the next generation of athletes in our State Team and Institute programs within each State, as well as checking in with our 21 and Under World Youth Cup athletes in their daily training environments. Another vital component of our High Performance system.
What a powerful start to the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season and it is so wonderful to have Saturday night designated as netball night. Thank you 9Gem and Telstra TV!
