Both the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixens – ironically the past two champions – finished the season on stirring victories.
It was a terrific send-off by the Thunderbirds for Jane Woodlands-Thompson and Leigh Waddington as well as by the Vixens for Bianca Chatfield in her final game.
It will be a fascinating start to the Australian Conference Finals Series in Sydney tonight. The NSW Swifts will have the home court edge, but West Coast Fever have the knowledge of where it needs to improve to get over the line in the team’s first ever finals appearance.
This could be our first extra time match for the season – hopefully everyone is prepared!
It will be a tough ask for the Swifts of Fever to back up two days later but both teams will ensure recovery is their prime focus once tonight’s match finishes and when they arrive in Brisbane tomorrow.
The is the first ever Conference Finals Series for the ANZ Championship and the format will challenge all teams with varying conditions, travel and opponents from both sides of the ditch.
But it should be the best ever!
Earlier this week my Australian Diamonds assistant coach Michelle den Dekker was unveiled as the new coach of the Thunderbirds for the 2016 season.
I am extremely proud and pleased for Michelle to be given this opportunity and I know that she is ready and raring to take on this great challenge.
So let the Finals begin!
