Australian Diamonds vice-captain Renae Ingles will miss the second Test of the 2015 Constellation Cup series after suffering a calf strain in the opening Test against New Zealand Silver Ferns on Tuesday.
The midcourter suffered the injury in her right calf midway through the second quarter in Christchurch.
“I’m obviously disappointed to miss a Test match for Australia but I’ll be the girls’ biggest supporter on the sideline tomorrow night,” Ingles said.
“After consultation with the medical and coaching staff, we felt it was in my best interest to rest up and get myself right for the rest of the series.”
The 50-44 victory over the Silver Ferns in the opening Test of the four-Test Constellation Cup series was Ingles 11th consecutive start for the Diamonds this year – including being the only Australian player to start every game at the Netball World Cup.
“The precautionary decision was made in the best interest of ensuring Renae’s fitness and availability for the final two Tests in Melbourne and Perth,” Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.
West Coast Fever defender April Letton is joining the Diamonds in Auckland ahead of the second Test at Vector Arena on Thursday.
