Ingles to miss Diamonds third Test

2015 World Netball Cup Day 2 Australia v Barbados Renae Hallinan

Australian Diamonds acting-captain Renae Ingles has failed to overcome a calf strain and will miss the third Test of the 2015 Constellation Cup against New Zealand Silver Ferns at Hisense Arena, Melbourne, on Sunday.

The midcourter suffered the injury midway through the second quarter of the Diamonds’ 50-44 victory in the opening Test on Tuesday in Christchurch.

“We’re not interested in taking risks with the fitness of our athletes at this stage of the year so we decided, in consultation with the medical staff, that Renae would miss Sunday’s Test,” Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.

“Renae will continue her recovery with our medical staff to give her the best opportunity of returning to action this Constellation Cup series.”

Shooter Natalie Medhurst will assume the role of acting-captain for Sunday’s third Test in Melbourne.

The 2015 Constellation Cup continues on Sunday when the Australian Diamonds host New Zealand Silver Ferns at Hisense Arena before the series concludes with the fourth Test at Perth Arena on Friday.

Leading the series 2-0, the Diamonds can wrap up the four-Test Constellation Cup series with victory on Sunday.
