The St. George District Netball Association has donated a massive $505 in support of Confident Girls, encouraging their extended netball community to bring along gold coins as a simple yet effective way to give to those who are less fortunate.
Saturday morning netball was played alongside face painting and temporary tattoos as well as a jumping castle with all money raised going to Confident Girls.
This donation to Confident Girls, follows St. George District Netball Association’s continued generosity to those in need, having previously donated their recycled uniforms to areas of need including Nowra, Dubbo, Northern Territory and Tonga.
The Association held their usual second hand clothes drive from their clubrooms alongside their Confident Girls fundraiser.
Association President Liz O’Brien, said that they are committed to using netball as a vehicle to connect their multi-cultural community as one.
“Our aim is to enhance the participation of Indigenous and local girls within our community by providing a warm and safe playing environment,” O’Brien said.
It was important to the association to give to Confident Girls, so that disadvantaged girls have the chance to have the same opportunities that they are able to give to their players.
“We provide education to our female athletes on nutrition and well-being as well as eliminating barriers that may prevent young players participating due to financial difficulties or personal commitments.
“We aim to build effective leaders with strong values and respect,” said O’Brien.
There’s still time to get involved in raising funds for Confident Girls. Fantastic examples of clubs’ fundraising efforts include, opting to make donations in-lieu of giving committee members and volunteers flowers or chocolates at end of season, and club and association sausage sizzles and bake sales planned for grand final days across the country.
Confident Girls has already supported more than 10,000 disadvantaged girls through community netball programs. With over 600,000 children living in poverty in Australia, we need and want to do more. To get involved or make a donation visit www.confidentgirls.com.au
