The Sporting Schools program was launched by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in January of 2015 and offers an exciting opportunity for whether you are an accredited netball coach, a school, a teacher or even a club or association. The Sporting Schools program has replaced the Active After-school Communities program.
The ASC, Netball Australia and the Member Organisations are working together to ensure that all primary school children will have the opportunity to participate in fun, safe and active sessions as part of their involvement in the brand new Sporting Schools program.
The highly successful NetSetGO program has been slightly modified to cater for the unique Sporting Schools environment. A four session NetSetGO program will be utilised as the delivery model for Sporting Schools programs for netball across the country. Schools will be able to request the following programs and coaches will be supplied with resources designed for each:
- ‘Net’ (Foundation/5-7 year olds) – a play-based motor skill program with the emphasis on the acquisition of basic motor skills in a fun environment through netball games
- ‘Set’ (8-10 year olds) – a program to develop skills through a series of fun activities and minor games incorporating game play activities and challenges.
- ‘GO’ – a program of continued development of netball skills within a positive, supportive and encouraging learning environment. At the School level this may include an increased focus on game play in preparation for Inter-School Sport, School-based Round Robin and/or House Competitions.
