Defending champions Victorian Fury will begin their Australian Netball League title defence this weekend when Week 2 heads to Perth’s Challenge Stadium and the Anne Clark Netball Centre in Sydney.

The Fury, along with the Victorian Flames and Territory Storm, travel to Perth to take on the Western Sting while the Netball NSW Waratahs and Netball NSW Blues host the Canberra Darters and Tassie Spirit in Sydney.

After going through last year’s Australian Netball League undefeated, en route to the title, the Fury will be out to record their 13th consecutive victory when they take on the Sting on Saturday evening – a side they’ve only lost to once in their previous seven meetings.

The Fury will take the court again on Sunday when they line up against the Storm, who will be contesting their third game of the weekend following matches against the Sting on Friday night and the Flames on Saturday afternoon.

The Sting kick off their ANL campaign on Friday night against a Storm team they’ve never lost to, which included a 31-goal victory in the corresponding fixture last season.

After making the Finals in their debut season last year, the Flames will hoping to avoid a second year hangover when they begin their season against the Storm and Sting – sides they beat 54-19 and 56-42 respectively last year.

The Netball NSW Waratahs and Blues will host two sides that opened their season last weekend in Tasmania.

The Spirit, sitting third on the ladder following a 52-38 win over the Darters and 58-36 loss to the Southern Force in Week 1, take on a Waratahs side they’ve never beaten and a Blues team they’ve only beaten twice in six previous meetings.

The Darters are still looking for their first win of the season after dropping games to Spirit and Fusion last weekend.

The Southern Force and QLD Fusion have the bye in Week 2.
