Emerging talent to gather at Centre of Excellence

2016 ANZC Championship Round 9 Melbourne Vixens v Adelaide Thunderbirds Thunderbirds Sarah Klau

Netball Australia is preparing for the upcoming Fast5 Netball World Series, with 18 athletes invited to participate in a Fast5 and Emerging Talent Camp.

The invitees will travel to Netball Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Canberra from 16-18 August where they will train under the watchful eye of Fast5 coach Jane Searle, Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander and National Selectors Michelle Wilkins and Anne Sargeant.

Current Australian Diamonds squad members (with the exception of Paige Hadley, Caitlyn Nevins and Stephanie Wood) have been granted exemptions for attending the camp but will be considered in selection for the Fast5 Netball World Series from 29-30 October in Melbourne.

“With less than three months until the Fast5 Netball World Series, we are looking closely at selection for our Fast5 team,” said Searle.

“The athletes in attendance have been earmarked by National Selectors as some of our brightest talent, we will be putting them through their paces to provide an understanding of what it takes to represent Australia,” Searle explained.

With an eye on the future, beginning with the Fast5 Netball World Series, the camp program includes technical and tactical sessions, regular match play and Fast5 match play.

“This year is the first time the Fast5 Netball World Series will be played on home soil, and we are determined to put a strong team forward,” said Searle.

A team of highly specialised coaches will be on hand to work with the athletes, including former Australian representatives Megan Anderson, Jenny Brazel and Rebecca Bulley. Former captain of the Australian Fast5 Team, Elissa Kent, will also be in attendance to share her expertise.

The 2016 Fast5 Netball World Series will be held at Hisense Arena, Melbourne from 29-30 October 2016.

General public tickets go on sale at 2pm Friday 19 August via ticketek.com.au. To access pre-sale tickets at 2pm Monday 15 August, sign up to the Fast 5 Netball World Series newsletter.
