NetFest is quickly developing a reputation as a `must do’ event for netballers right across Australia and New Zealand.
Now in its fourth year, NetFest has proven a hugely popular addition to the calendar with netballers of all ages – men and women – since its inception in 2011.
This year’s event will be held on the Gold Coast from 16-19 October and entries are now open with a special `early bird’ offer available until June 30. So now is the time to start getting your team together and get in your entry to receive a discount.
NetFest is Netball Australia’s mass participation event that offers competitors the choice of `traditional’ outdoor play or the hugely popular beach netball.
Two greats of Australian netball in Liz Ellis and Sharelle McMahon are ambassadors for NetFest and, while both love getting out and watching the action on the courts, say the social side of the event is what gives it such a special vibe.
In its first year, NetFest attracted 62 teams. In 2012 that number more than doubled to 134 teams and in 2013 a whopping 200 teams from around Australia and New Zealand took part.
“I was there for the first year of NetFest and then last and there are lot of different activities for people,” McMahon, the former Australian Diamonds captain, said.
“What we really struck me last year was the atmosphere and the feeling of fun that everyone was having. At that time of the year I know that a lot of netball clubs are looking at doing end-of-season trips and NetFest is a nice way to finish off your season, go away and have a good time with your friends.
“So if you’re keen on entering a team you should take advantage of the early bird offer and get in early to ensure your spot.”
