The draw for this year’s Fast5 Netball World Series in New Zealand has been announced with the Australian Fast5 Flyers taking on England in their opening match.
Australia is one of six countries taking part in the tournament, being played at Auckland’s Vector Arena between 8-10 of November.
The Flyers begin their campaign against the England Fives then face the Malawi Queens and the New Zealand FAST5 Ferns on the opening day of the tournament.
On day two Australia will play South Africa’s SPAR Proteas and finish the pool matches against the Jamaican Sunshine Girls.
The Semi Finals and the Final will be played on the final day, along with the play-off for fifth and sixth.
Under new coach Jane Searle, the Flyers will be looking to improve on Australia’s sixth-placed finish last year. Searle will be assisted by Adelaide Thunderbirds championship-winning coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson.
Australia’s best finish at the Fast5 Netball World Series is third at the inaugural tournament in 2009 and 2011.
The Fast5 Netball World Series is a variation of traditional netball with modified rules and regulations, including one, two and three point goals, no wing players, rolling substitution, shortened quarters and power plays.
The Australians are taking a young side across to Auckland featuring five players from Australia’s 21/U team, which won silver at August’s World Youth Netball Championships.
The Australian Fast5 Flyers team is: Ashleigh Brazill, Courtney Bruce, Tegan Caldwell, Carla Dziwoki, Paige Hadley, Demelza McCloud, Susan Pratley, Gabi Simpson, Gretel Tippett and Jo Weston.
