In the lead up to the 2015 Constellation Cup, we’re giving Diamonds fans the opportunity to vote for the top moment in the Australian team’s history against the Silver Ferns. Each week fans will get the opportunity to vote between two historical moments across the Diamonds social media channels. The winning moment will progress to the next round until a champion is crowned.
Week 1: 1991 NWC (WINNER)
In 1991, Australia claimed its first Netball World Cup on home soil when the tournament was hosted in Sydney. The first Netball World Cup gold medal match goes down in history as one of the greatest netball games ever, Australia securing the victory by one goal, 53-52.
vs 1998 Commonwealth Games
Australia claimed the first ever gold medal for netball in the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, in the first year of netball being included as a sport. The gold medal match was another classic Australia and New Zealand rivalry, Australia winning gold with a 42-39 win.
Week 2: 2011 NWC (WINNER)
Australia claimed its tenth Netball World Cup title in thrilling circumstances against arch-rivals New Zealand. It was a young Caitlin Bassett who sealed the one-goal victory in double-extra time, and Australia’s second-consecutive title.
vs 2014 Constellation Cup
The Diamonds finished a golden year with an unbeaten record in the 2014 Constellation Cup. They defeated the Silver Ferns in straight-sets to retain the trophy on Australian shores for at least another year.
Week 3: 1999 NWC (WINNER)
The 1999 Netball World Cup gold medal match has gone down in history as one of the most memorable performances in Australian netball. Trailing at three-quarter time, Australia produced an inspiring comeback that was sealed by Sharelle McMahon’s final-second goal to win, 42-41.
vs 2014 Commonwealth Games
The Australian Netball Team claimed its first Commonwealth Games gold medal in 12 years at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Australia took control, late in the first half, defeating New Zealand 58-40.
Week 4: 2007 NWC (WINNER)
After taking home silver at the 2003 Netball World Cup and 2006 Commonwealth Games, the Australian netball team were determined to take home gold in Auckland. Former captain Liz Ellis finished her career on a high, with the Australian Netball team securing the hard-fought 39-37 victory over New Zealand.

Our most recent Netball World Cup triumph, the Diamonds set the tone and brought intensity early in the gold medal match, responding to our Day 3 loss to the Silver Ferns. A hard-fought battle, the Diamonds won their eleventh and third-consecutive Netball World Cup title, 58-55.
Preliminary Final 1: 1991 NWC
