Australian Diamonds name training partners

_MCA7686LiAustralian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander has named six training partners to assist the team’s preparations for Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015.

Queensland Firebirds trio Clare McMeniman, Gabi Simpson (pictured right) and Gretel Tippett, along with Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Carla Borrego (pictured below), NSW Swifts’ Susan Pettitt and West Coast Fever’s April Letton will join the 12-player Diamonds team for a training camp on the Gold Coast ahead of the World Cup.

“The training partners will play a pivotal role in the team’s preparations for the World Cup, they provide elite and unique support to our training environment,” Alexander said.

The Diamonds, along with training partners, have arrived on the Gold Coast for their first training camp since Alexander named the World Cup team at the Sydney Opera House a fortnight ago.

The Gold Coast camp, which includes a variety of on and off court sessions, will finish on Friday.

The Diamonds will conclude their preparations for the Netball World Cup with a five-day training camp in Newcastle, New South Wales, from 31 July – 4 August.

Along with their inclusion as training partners, Borrego, Pettitt and Tippett have been elevated into the 2015-16 Australian Diamonds Squad and are available for future international selection, including October’s four-Test Constellation Cup series against the New Zealand Silver Ferns.

The trio round out the Australian Diamonds 22-player squad for 2015-16.
