The Australian Diamonds have gathered in Melbourne in preparation for the Netball Quad Series against England, New Zealand and South Africa.

The Pre-Departure Camp provides an opportunity for the team to settle back into the Diamonds environment, under the watchful eye of Head Coach Lisa Alexander, Assistant Coach – Defensive Specialist Roselee Jencke and Specialist Shooting Coach Marg Caldow.

The Quad Series team of 12 athletes has been joined by squad members Paige Hadley, Gretel Tippett, Jo Weston and invitee Emily Mannix.

“It’s a really great opportunity for us to re-centre, prepare and focus on where we are going to go to from here. We are relishing being back in our team setting and are looking forward to what is to come,” said acting captain Clare McMeniman.

“We are focusing on us at the moment and what we need to do. We are a relatively new group and haven’t been together since January this year.”

The Diamonds are making the most of their time in Melbourne, with technical, tactical and strength and conditioning sessions to prepare them for the series ahead.

“We have a lot of performance analysis, reminders of some of the things we learnt in England and preparation for a new opponent, South Africa, who will be extremely tough,” said Lisa Alexander.

“It’s about reinforcing our key behaviors and high performance standards, and what it means to be a Diamond.”

The focus is not solely on what takes place on court, with the Diamonds, coaching and support staff also taking part in The Resilience Project at the camp, looking at mental health and wellbeing.

Alexander explained the importance of the session.

“The whole thing is related to performance; off court and on court effect each other,” she said.

“It would be remiss of us to ignore the fact that doing more work on the mental health of our athletes and our staff is a really important way of improving performance and overall wellbeing.”

The Diamonds’ Quad Series Team will travel to Auckland on Wednesday, with their first Test against South Africa on Saturday 27 August. Limited tickets are available for the Diamonds v England Roses at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 31 August. Secure your seat via Ticketek.
