Darters, Storm eye drought-breaking win

_MCA8079LThe clash between the competition’s two winless sides the Canberra Darters and Territory Storm will be one of the keenly-watched matches in Week 5 of the 2014 Australian Netball League season this weekend.

One of either the Darters or Storm will end their losing streaks when they face off in the third and final game at the AIS Arena in Canberra on Saturday night.

The Darters will be eager to claim their first ever victory over the Storm and will be hoping the home court advantage helps them break their drought.

The Storm’s last ANL triumph was against the Darters last season.

The team has suffered a major injury blow with captain Siobhan Sefton ruled out for the rest of the ANL season after suffering a broken arm during the side’s loss to the Netball NSW Waratahs in Brisbane last weekend.

The Storm also take on the Netball NSW Blues on Sunday afternoon, a side they have beaten only once in six previous encounters, back in 2012. Last year’s clash in Darwin saw the Blues triumph by one goal.

The Darters kick off the round on Friday night with a clash against the Victorian Flames. The visitors have won the only previous encounter between the two sides, triumphing 74-46 in Melbourne last season.

Top sides the Victorian Fury and QLD Fusion will be looking to consolidate their positions on the ladder and move closer to ensuring semi-final appearances when they take to the courts in the nation’s capital over the weekend.

The Fury take on the Tassie Spirit in the first match of Saturday’s triple header followed by the Fusion’s clash against the Blues.

On Sunday, the Fusion will look to continue its unbeaten record against the Spirit and the Fury likewise against the Darters when they meet in the final game of the round.

The Netball NSW Waratahs, Southern Force and Western Sting all have the bye this round.
