Australia has shown impressive form in the opening game of the World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow overnight, the defending champions demolishing Israel 123-6.
Despite the huge margin, the Israelis stayed positive throughout according to Plant Netball, delighted at the chance to take the court against the world’s best and participate in their first world tournament at any level.
A far younger team, with an average of just 16.8 years compared with the more experienced Australians at 19.5 years, the Israelis also gave away the advantage in height, fitness and skill.
Australia’s flair shone in their ability to pick off Israeli passes at all opportunities, and in solid shooting performances which averaged at 89%.
The Australians’ next game is against Namibia, who went down in their first round match against Fiji 61-36.
