The ANZ Championship Pre-Season Shootout is set to heat up on the final day, with a three point scoring zone and rolling interchanges to be trialed.
In a bonus for fans, all seven hours of Sunday’s pre-season action from both Sydney and Auckland will be broadcast live on FOX Sports and SKY Sport NZ.
Each team will play two games under Sunday’s trial conditions with the top two teams in each city, based on the results of those matches, to then feature in a Shootout Final to determine the winners of the Auckland and Sydney Shootouts.
NSW Swifts shooter Susan Pettitt is eager to test the three point scoring zone in the pre-season environment.
“I’ve been playing netball for forever, and I think it’s nice and exciting to have these new changes in there to test them out and see what it really does for the netball game,” Pettitt said.
Melbourne Vixens defender Jo Weston, who has previously played under the rolling interchange rule in the Fast5 format, is looking forward to trialing the rule in the ANZ Championship setting.
“I think it will just make the game a little bit quicker in terms of not calling even a thirty second time out to change players, and also adds more variety into everyone’s game.”
ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook said fans can look forward to the spectacle the new rules will create.
“The Sydney and Auckland Shootout’s will provide the perfect lead in to Round 1 and we believe the trialing of such rules as the three-point `super shot’ will create interest and a great spectacle for the crowds and TV audiences.”
The Pre-Season Shootout is the first chance to see all ten ANZ Championship teams in action before the season begins on April 1.
Each team will play six games during the three-day tournament with the full draws available on the ANZ Championship website.
