Netball Australia’s Head of Community Strategy and Netball Development Anne-Marie Phippard said the panel contains a wealth of knowledge and expertise to ensure Australia remains at the forefront of umpire development.
“We are proud that Australia’s umpires are already acknowledged as among the best in the sport and that our umpiring program is world-class,” Phippard said.
“It’s fantastic to assemble a coaching panel who will play a vital role in developing our next generation of umpires.”
Netball Australia also wishes to acknowledge and pay tribute to the outstanding contribution made to umpire development both in Australia and overseas by Chris Burton OAM and Maureen Boyle OAM.
The pair have been involved in Netball Australia’s umpire programs at all levels for more than three decades and both will leave an indelible legacy on the sport as high performance umpire coaches.
“Chris’ ability to look at umpiring from a players’ perspective, having proudly represented her country at two Netball World Cups, revolutionised the way the game was officiated,” Phippard said.
“Maureen has made a tremendous contribution to the sport, not just through her many umpiring roles, but also in developing valuable education resources and to the rules of netball at an international level.
“Chris and Maureen will continue to work with Netball Australia in the area of umpiring as expert consultants and we value what they have contributed to the programs over a number of years.”
The first High Performance Umpire camp for 2016 involving the AA/IUA badged umpires will be held in Sydney between 6-7 February.
